Yes I know you could never go pot holing! But wait a minute this is an underground experience. So what is the difference? Well we don’t squirm along tight wet passageways. We are following the tunnels and huge underground chambers left by the slate quarry men of the last two hundred years.
We can explore these tunnels and visit the huge chambers which have been left behind after the miners finished taking out the slates.
Its also possible to see how they worked and the conditions they worked in deep underground. There is real archeological history here.
It would be better described as climbing a mountain underground. It is one of the more popular activities as its so different to anything you may have experienced before. Of course if you want more of a challenge we can do more exciting things like an underground abseil or we can take you to find you some tigher passageways like the “cheesepress.” If you want amore of an adrenalin buzz.
ROCK CLIMBING
This maybe the first time you have tried rock climbing. We have several good beginners cliffs of up to 75 feet high with climbs of all types of difficulty.
We start the session with some rock scrambling and playing on boulders to build up your skills and to have fun.
We will then introduce you to tying yourself on to the rope and belaying each other (protecting each other with the rope) You will then have the chance to try several climbs. We will finish the session by teaching you to abseil down the cliff.
CANYONING
This has become one of our most popular activities in the last few years. This is not gorge scrambling where you climb up the river. Instead we follow a deep river ravine as it tumbles down the mountain side with waterfalls of varying height and jumps into deep dark pools.
We give you wet suits, buoyancy aids and helmets. then you swim, slip, slide and jump down the river and its waterfalls. Great fun even if you can’t swim!
There are 2 main types of canoe, the Canadian canoe based on the Red Indian canoe of North America which is an open boat usually paddled by 2 people with single bladed paddles(see the picture).
The other is the Kayak or Eskimo canoe which has an enclosed hull with one or 2 cockpits to sit in. Its paddled with a double bladed paddle.
This is a good introduction to canoeing, using 2 or 3 person open Canadian Canoes which are much easier to handle and paddle than a kayak.
You may want to devote a whole day to a mountain walk up one of the many magnificent mountains we have here in Snowdonia. If you haven’t been to Snowdonia before you may want to climb Snowdon itself (3,560 ft). But really we are spoiled for choice based as we are in the centre of the Snowdonia National Park and surrounded by so many mountains with walks and climbs to suit every ability.
